On Wednesday, January 18, Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare (FSLH) will host a presentation and discussion on blood donation. The free session begins at 5pm in the Weaver Lounge on the first floor at Faxton Campus, 1676 Sunset Avenue, Utica.

Linda Belton, an account manager for the American Red Cross Biomedical Services, will present. She will discuss the impact and need for donation, eligibility requirements and the donation process.

More than 38,000 blood donations are needed each day in the United States, but only 38 percent of the population is eligible to donate. Just one donor can help save or sustain up to three lives.

American Red Cross Biomedical Services is the single largest supplier of blood and blood products in the United States, collecting and processing more than 40 percent of the blood supply and distributing it to some 3,000 hospitals and transfusion centers nationwide. The Red Cross also plays a leading role in protecting the safety of donors and patients and increasing the availability of blood.

FSLH is dedicated to providing quality community education programs. This event is part of a series of education programs for the community on health-related topics, including wellness screenings and proper nutrition.

For those interested in donating blood, FSLH is hosting two blood drives in January. The first is a Mobile Van Blood Drive on Wednesday, January 25, from 9am to 2pm at the Faxton Campus. There will also be a blood drive on Thursday, January 26, from 10am to 4pm in Allen Calder Conference Rooms 3, 4 and 5 at St. Luke’s Campus, 1656 Champlin Avenue, Utica.
